Our client is a well-funded start-up company aiming to simplify the complexity of US sales tax compliance for businesses around the world. We work tirelessly to create an automatic end-to-end solution for enterprises that are struggling to follow their sales tax obligations - from calculations and nexus tracking to reporting and filing.
Role and responsibilities:
As a Tax Compliance Manager, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our clients' adherence to sales tax regulations and overall compliance. You will be responsible for managing the entire sales tax process, including accurate and timely filings, reconciliations, and addressing any potential compliance issues. You will work closely with the different departments in the company in order to provide outstanding service to our clients.
Key responsibilities:
- Sales Tax Compliance: Oversee the end-to-end sales tax compliance process for our clients, including preparing and submitting accurate and timely sales tax returns, remittances, and other required documentation.
- Research and Interpretation: Stay up-to-date with changes in sales tax laws, regulations, and reporting requirements and ensure compliance for our clients. Interpret and communicate these changes effectively to both internal stakeholders and clients.
- Audit Support: Assist clients during sales tax audits by providing necessary information and documentation to auditors. Act as the primary point of contact between the auditors and clients, ensuring a smooth and efficient process.
- Customer Support: Provide exceptional customer service to clients, addressing any sales tax compliance-related inquiries or concerns promptly and professionally.
- Compliance Advisory: Advise clients on sales tax matters, including potential risks, opportunities for tax savings, and proactive compliance strategies.
- Systems and Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and enhance internal systems, processes, and technology tools to streamline sales tax compliance operations and increase efficiency.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including finance, legal, and technology, to ensure alignment on compliance initiatives and seamless integration of sales tax processes.
Candidate requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field. A professional certification (e.g., CPA) is preferred
- Experience working with multiple clients or in a consulting environment is highly desirable
- Experience in tax compliance and familiarity with e-commerce and digital sales tax issues is a plus (sales tax compliance and filings knowledge – ADVANTAGE)
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and resolve complex compliance issues effectively
- Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy in preparing and reviewing sales tax filings and other compliance documents
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively interact with clients, auditors, and internal stakeholders. Ability to convey complex tax concepts in a clear and understandable manner
- Proficient in using tax compliance software, enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems, and MS Office Suite. Experience with tax automation tools and systems is a plus
- Proactive approach to compliance and staying up-to-date with changes in tax laws, regulations, and industry trends.
- Strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple clients, deadlines, and priorities effectively
- Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong relationships with clients and provide excellent customer service
- Ability to learn and adapt to different software applications and tools
- Must have advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel
